Baptist Sermon Reprints

Baptists ought to read other Baptists. One of the problems we face in our current day is that most will not read large volumes of works in doctrine and theology. So, Reformed Baptist Church of Elizabethtown, along with its elders, are seeking to get smaller, more manageable size reads from Baptists of the past into the hands of the modern Baptist reader. These small booklets are perfect to have as part of your own library, or to have on hand to give as gifts to others.

Pursuing Peace: The Disposition of the Faithful Servant of God ($5.00 for Paperback on Amazon)

The topic of “peace” within the Scriptures is quite large, and it is one that is specifically dealt with in both the Old and New Testaments. The ultimate issue of peace begins and ends with our relationship to our Creator. Peace was broken between us and our Creator by our first father Adam. Since then, sin has reigned in the hearts of naturally born men which means that we are at war with God. This war can only end one way, if left to our natural bent toward sinning against God: our death.

The goal of this volume is to bring a concise biblical understanding of peace into view. This very subject is one that is quite often left by the wayside in our modern day. Polemics and the ability to win arguments via well-formulated articulation seems to be the measurement by which many in our digital age measure spiritual maturity and vitality. However, if the goal of the child of God is to be known as a child of God, then the pursuit of peace is the path. Someone who is always looking for somebody to argue with or looking for new enemies to publicly challenge is not the instruction of the Lord concerning the practical implications of gospel-centered peace. In fact, Christ Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God (Matthew 5:9).”

A Heavenly Portrait: Marriage as a Type of Christ and the Church ($6.00 for Paperback on Amazon)

There is a great deal of talk about marriage these days. Everyone from gurus and politicians to talk show hosts and news anchors have something to say about this institution so dear to our humanity. But the great question we must ask ourselves is this: What does God have to say about marriage?

This volume deals with the Scriptural teaching concerning marriage, specifically focusing on marriage as a type or shadow of Jesus Christ and his church. The author’s thesis is that the primary purpose of marriage, as instituted by God, is to display the gospel through serving as a typological representation of Jesus and the church. Furthermore, the relationship between husband and wife must be understood in the light of that greater purpose.

The author’s hope is that this work will be useful to the saints of God. Our marriages are an excellent way in which we are able to share the truth and love of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the on-looking world. The prayer of this author is that the Lord will fit us to be useful in his kingdom, and that he will bless our marriages to serve as faithful witnesses of the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Seed of the Woman: An Outline of the History of Redemption with Study Guide ($6.00 for Paperback on Amazon)

This book provides a simple and brief outline of the history of God’s work of redemption as it is recorded in Scripture. After each section, a series of study questions and memory verse aids the reader in reflecting and meditating on what God has done and revealed concerning himself and his Son. This book was first designed as a study tool for a men’s Bible study, but is suitable for a wide variety of uses.

Excerpt: “God decrees all of history, past, present, and future, for his own glory, to demonstrate this truth that he is God alone, and there is none like him. This is the end or purpose of history, and the means by which God does this is his redemptive work. Thus, all of history centers upon the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ, who accomplished redemption in time and space.”

Settled Forever In Heaven: The Bible Doctrine of the Preservation of Scripture ($10.00 paperback)

The doctrine of the Bible is no less an article of the Christian faith than the doctrines of the Trinity and of the atonement. Just as the Scriptures are our standard for the knowledge of the Triune nature of God and the Person and Work of the Lord Jesus Christ, so too the Scriptures are our standard for our doctrine of the Bible. So, when we come to think about what the Bible is, its authority, clearness, and use, we must govern our thinking according to what Scripture says about itself. This is also true for the doctrine which is the focus of this work: the preservation of Scripture. How are we to understand what it means that God’s Word has been preserved? The answer to that question must begin with what the Bible says about its own preservation.

One aim of this work is to encourage the saints, that they might have certainty concerning the Scriptures. Therefore, this is not intended to be a “scholarly work.” The audience is not the textual critic or the seminary professor. This work is intended for the people of God, whatever their formal education may be. My desire is to take the discussion concerning the text of Scripture out of the realm of the academy, and bring it before God’s sheep, so that they can search the Scriptures, and see whether these things be so. Do not just take my word for it. But consider what is written, consider what God himself says, and be fully persuaded in your own mind.
